SALM & MALM Mooring Systems

MSNZ’s Single Anchor Leg Mooring (SALM) system uses screw anchor technology and high-buoyancy floats to create a secure, low-impact mooring that’s gentle on the environment and your vessel.

For larger vessels and deeper waters, our Multi Anchor Leg Mooring (MALM) system distributes the load across multiple anchor points to increase stability and strength. Also as the pivot point is much closer to the surface the swing circles are much smaller. Eg. 40 metre vessel in 70 metres of water the swing circle is only 65-70 metres with a 20 metre set of Top Ropes.

Marine Flex Installations

MSNZ is a licensed installer and servicer of Marine Flex – a high-performance elasticated mooring system that reduces shock loading, protects seabeds, and extends the life of your gear. Marine Flex is ideal for eco-sensitive locations and long-term reliability.

Concrete Block Supply & Installation

We supply and install engineered concrete blocks from 2 to 5 tonnes, depending on your system requirements. Our vessels, Soundz Image and Soul Commitment, are purpose-built for anchoring and mooring work and can lift or deploy blocks up to 6 tonnes from the seabed with ease.

Using our Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS), we can accurately place, locate or reposition your mooring block as needed.

Commercial Diver Support

Our team of qualified commercial divers ensures all mooring work is carried out with precision and care. When lifting mooring blocks, we always attach at the block eye rather than by the tackle to avoid unnecessary strain on mooring components.

If your mooring buoy sinks or goes missing, we can still locate and recover the tackle and block underwater.

Mooring Inspections & Maintenance

To maintain the safety and reliability of your system—and to comply with regional requirements—we offer a biennial servicing and maintenance programme.

We’ll contact you before your service is due, complete a full inspection, and provide a detailed servicing report. This includes:

  • Checking all mooring tackle

  • Replacing worn components (as recommended by Marlborough District Council’s Minimum Mooring Standards, components should be changed at 20% wear)

  • Welding for added security

  • Fitting anodes to extend the lifespan of components

We carry spare stock onboard and stand by our workmanship under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. A Mooring Certificate of Compliance will be issued after each service.

Mooring Cleaning

Between inspections, marine growth can quickly build up on mooring lines, especially in warmer months. MSNZ offers a mooring cleaning service to help reduce the risk of fouling and buoy sinking.

You can choose a one-off clean or schedule a regular annual clean in alternate years between inspections.

Resource Consent Assistance

Is your Mooring Resource Consent due to expire? We can assist with the renewal process and prepare your application on your behalf.

Enquire with us for costs and application timeframes.
